Job Description

Under the supervision of an experienced registered Professional Engineer, during the course of your internship, you may:

  • Design power, lighting, and control systems for industrial, commercial, and municipal facilities such as water/wastewater treatment and collection facilities, city parks and streetscapes, athletic facilities, and buildings. This includes designing power systems, lighting systems, motor control, process control, generators, and fire alarm.

  • Design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Revit, EasyPower, and Excel to perform engineering calculations, design single-line diagrams, design control diagrams, and model or draft construction plans and details.

  • Conduct power systems analysis, such as short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash incident energy analysis, and harmonic analysis.

  • Study and interpret laws, codes, and standards, related to electrical design and construction, such as those by NFPA, IBC, and IEEE, and apply these to your designs and inspections.

  • Write, edit, and review electrical construction specifications.

  • Develop drafting and modeling standards, including drafting details, creating Revit families, set up Revit and AutoCAD standards, and develop spreadsheets for engineering analysis.

  • Perform site visits as needed to gather existing data on existing electrical systems and to perform inspections on work under construction.

  • Handle miscellaneous tasks, including administrative tasks, to meet business needs.

Required Qualifications

The qualified candidate should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Have successfully completed or be currently enrolled in a basic Circuit Analysis Course (UGA ENGR 2170, Mercer EGR244, or Kennesaw EE2301). You should be able to perform basic electrical engineering calculations using Ohm’s Law for DC, AC, and three-phase power and be able to extrapolate from basic understanding to more complex problems.

  • Have an interest in power and control system design and express curiosity and eagerness to learn design and modeling principles, standards, and practices.

  • Have an analytical mindset to review and understand problems on both high-level and detail-level and propose solutions to solve engineering design problems.

  • Have proficient self-leadership skills, including general independence, time management, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.

  • Exhibit competent interpersonal and communication skills when working with others, including co-workers and clients, in order to express ideas professionally and effectively to engineering and non-engineering persons.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate should:

  • Have successfully completed or be currently enrolled in additional electrical engineering courses such as Power Systems, Power Distribution, Electrical Machines, and Power Systems Analysis.

  • Have prior experience in relevant design, including use of software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel.

  • Have interest and availability to work part time during the school year. Part time schedule is flexible, to work with class schedules,

  • Reporting to: Steven Bunker, PE

  • Location: In office at 2484 Ingleside Avenue, Macon, Georgia.

  • Schedule: Full-time Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

    • Part-time positions will be considered.

  • Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt, At-Will

  • Travel: Less than ten percent.

  • Benefits:
